Standardization
for 3-Plate Molds
To decrease mold building
time and improve
mold
performance,
Progressive has
added off-the-shelf Puller Pins and Bushings for
3-plate molds.
“Puller Pins and Bushings
save valuable shop
time where products
like these were previously made in-house, mold by
mold,” says Randy Winton, Progressive’s R&D Manager. “Rather than
spending time with adapting a drill bushing, these components are
sized for standard
plate
thicknesses,
are ready to use out of the box and enable a quick and secure
installation.”
When it comes to
performance, the Bushings feature
a tapered lead-in for
smooth, long-term performance. And, Puller Pin undercuts
are heat treated after machining for added durability. Customs are
also provided for a
competitive price and delivery.

One Source for
Threaded C-Cores
The benefits of
Collapsible Cores
have been accessed for years: Cycle time is reduced as much as 1/3
due to elimination of gear/rack activation, while cavity spacing can
be tighter, resulting in a smaller mold and press.
However, there is a
growing trend by moldmakers to now go one step further and not only
order pre-engineered C-Cores, but also to have the item arrive in
their shop with the thread detail provided finish machined.
“It’s something different
for a moldmaker, and therefore often difficult and costly to grind
threads on a collapsible core in-house,” says Mark Casey, Technical
Sales Manager. “It just makes sense to tap into the manufacturer’s
expertise, where all the necessary fixtures and set-ups are
established. This way, the moldmaker doesn’t carry the liability for
the cost of the core should there be an error in-house or from a
secondary thread grinding source.”
Before ordering a
standard, blank Collapsible Core, forward a part drawing or CAD
geometry to tech@procomps.com,
and evaluate the costs and advantages of this specialized
capability.

It's Been Said... |
|
Progressive's
Needle Bearing Locks
with 'Friction Free™' technology have
begun to set a new industry standard:
· Provide more lifting
power without metal-to-metal wear
· Precise registration for
smooth positioning
·
Proven
long term performance
Now, numerous positive
experiences are coming being reported…
"Two of our customers now
specify Progressive Needle Bearing Locks," says Kurt Kramer, of Swan
Industries. "One customer was contending with very slight, tapered
kiss-off angles, so tool maintenance time and costs risked going
through the ceiling. These locks lasts much longer than other
interlock designs, and line up the front and back half of the mold
before critical angles come together, which prevents rubbing and
galling of the inserts."
Mark Leroux of Applied
Medical told us, “We now use them on every mold we build, and also
when we have molds built by outside vendors. They have gone beyond
our expectations and are very affordably priced in comparison with
other interlocks. Plus you get many times more cycles from these,
than typical steel on steel locks.”
Proven in the field and
compatible with industry standards, Needle Bearing Locks are smooth
operators in the harshest of conditions. To learn more, slide on

Randy
Winton, R&D Manager
Progressive’s R&D Manager,
Randy Winton, hit the ground running when he joined the company in
2004, traveling extensively to meet and work with customers around
the world. Some may think that “RW’s” initials stand for Road
Warrior!
Randy’s role with
Progressive is three-fold:
·
Technical sales –
Randy meets with customers and tells them about new product
offerings and how to build a better mold by reviewing best
practices for mold maintenance;
·
Research and
development – Randy assists with improving existing products and
with the development of new products at Progressive;
·
Tech support –
Randy provides critical
support to customers. When Progressive receives a call that
requires someone to ‘dig in further’, Randy will follow up and
make recommendations.
Asked what he feels is the
most important aspect of his job since joining Progressive, Randy
states, “Supplying information to the customer that helps resolve
problems. It’s what I’ve done for 35 years and I enjoy that part of
my job. Seeing how molds are built around the world has also
benefited my role here. Sometimes there’s more than one way to do
the same thing, and by seeing first hand what’s happening around the
globe, I can more effectively help our customers.”
