Progressive Standardizes Expandable Cavities

Utilized as a custom solution for years, Expandable Cavities now have been released as a standardized, off-the-shelf component.

The Ex-Cav is designed for molding undercuts located under the part surface, such as barbs and protrusions, and is offered in four sizes, ranging from 20mm to 50mm.

Expandable Cavities simplify mold designs by eliminating the need for complex side action assemblies.  In addition, their compact design enables the use of smaller mold bases and a smaller press.

“Expandable cavities have been successful in helping molders save money by reducing mold width and maximizing cavitation,” said Al Hickok, Midwest Sales Manager at Progressive. “By having a standard line available we’re able to bring these advantages to our customers and help them meet shortened lead times.”

The Ex-Cav standard includes two mounting styles, with CAD geometry available for ease of integration into upcoming mold designs.  All Ex-Cav’s can be ordered with molding details already machined, saving time, and custom Ex-Cav’s requiring special configurations are also available.

See Progressive at NPE2009, MoldMaking Expo & ANTEC

Progressive is set to once again exhibit at NPE: The International Plastics Showcase, and at the MoldMaking Expo, both of which will take place June 22 – 26 in Chicago.

At NPE2009, Progressive will be located in Booth 12138 in McCormick’s South Hall, with team members on hand to show attendees the latest innovations.

In addition, special VIP customer events will be held within the NPE booth to help welcome everyone to Chicago, Progressive’s hometown.

At the MoldMaking Expo, look for Progressive in Booth 101000 in McCormick’s West Hall, where many new and expanded product lines will be displayed and demonstrated.

Speakers & Sponsorships

In addition to exhibiting, Progressive’s Midwest Sales Manager, Al Hickok, will be a presenter at the MoldMaking Expo Conference and also at ANTEC, the SPE’s Annual Technical Conference, which is co-located with NPE and the Expo.

Progressive is proud to once again sponsor the MoldMaking Expo 2009 Technical Conference.  With a wide array of topics presented in the forms of keynote addresses, workshops, seminars and panel discussions, this technical conference is an ideal way for attendees to get their fill of vital information from noted industry experts.

In addition, Progressive will also repeat its annual sponsorship of the distinguished MoldMaking Technology Leadtime Leader Awards.  The Leadtime Leader Awards recognize outstanding North American mold making shops and their ability to succeed in today’s global mold market.  The awards are presented at a special ceremony held during the MoldMaking Expo.

An avid supporter of many industry events, Progressive recently awarded scholarships to this year’s winner of the AMBA Mold Builder of the Year Award and the winner of the first AMBA Chapter of the Year Award.  Two $5,000 scholarships were donated in the recipients’ names to industry related schools of their choice to provide assistance to those who are interested in pursing a career in moldmaking.

Mark Malloy
Sales & Marketing Manager

Fifteen years ago, Mark Malloy joined the Progressive Sales & Marketing team. Since that time, he has been involved in the development and implementation of programs that have helped Progressive become a leading components supplier to the production tooling industry.

In addition to managing the Sales and Marketing Department for Progressive North America, Mark provides support for Progressive’s business units in Asia and Europe, and coordinates trade show participation around the world.

Mark says one of his most notable accomplishments is the implementation of Progressive’s Key Account Program, which was launched in 2005.

“It’s been gratifying being able to provide our customers with advantages they can share with, or pass on to, their customers via the Key Account Program,” he says. “It’s a very successful program, and it is one of several that have led to Progressive’s growth as a global company.

“But the real key to this company’s success is our “progressive-minded” customers who are willing to embrace new technologies and incorporate innovative components into their tooling. We wouldn’t be where we are
without them.”
