Progressive Introduces New Plate Lock Systems

Progressive Components has added two new systems for mechanically controlling parting line sequence in molds.

Plate Locks, also referred to as “latch locks”, are being offered in an Externally-Mounted, Cam-Driven style and also in an Internal-Mounted, Ejection design.

Progressive’s Externally-Mounted, Cam-Driven Plate Locks provide these advantages:

● Mechanically controlled movement to achieve positive plate sequencing

● Improvement over existing latch lock devices

● Maximum locking surface, yet compact with an adaptable design

● Straightforward installation with minimal machining required in the mold base

● Designed to be one system that applies to various plate sequencing applications

The Internal Plate Lock System for Ejection control offers these benefits:

● Eliminates the need for two sets of ejector plates for secondary ejection

● Utilizes the mold’s PKO locations, saving space and eliminating
external hardware

Ken Rumore, who is a design engineer at Progressive, said, “Progressive has worked to offer several standards to allow customers access to the approaches they are most familiar with, while gaining the benefits of utilizing an off-the-shelf standard.”

Animations of each Plate Lock System are available online, or call 800-269-6653 for more information and to order.

CamActions Provide Convenient, Cost-Effective Core Pull Action

CamActions from Progressive simplify core pulls and undercuts – and they do it quickly and easily.

Mark Tomei at Concept Tool & Mold, a company that works mainly with customers in the medical industry among others, uses the CamAction 200 Series most often, but has used the 100, 300 and 400 Series as well for various projects.

He said, “One of the things I like best about Progressive’s CamActions is the speed at which I am able to use them rather than manufacturing them myself.  The convenience of being able to order them off-the-shelf and then easily install this product helps us turn projects around faster.  I can also quickly replace one in the field if something breaks.

“We often use them on quick turnaround prototypes, which has saved me a few times because they are so convenient and easy to use,” Tomei added.

CamActions also accommodate angled pulls, as shown in the schematic at right, and all with standard items to help ease the design, build and maintenance processes.

It's Been Said

The Progress Report recently featured Progressive’s exclusive StacKit® System and now customer Shawn McNamara at Chicago Mold Engineering Co., Inc. has provided feedback about the ease of using this product for building stack molds.

“The StacKit System is fantastic to work with because it is a large, durable component,” he told us.  “Because it is robust it’s nice to have something available that is that big and yet so easy to use.  All we have to do is machine locating pockets and dowels for alignment and that’s it.  The assembly is very easy – just plug and play.

“We’ve done different approaches in the past where we’ve machined the gears ourselves and machined the racks and leader pins, which is a lot of work,” he continued. “StacKit requires much less machining and you still get the reliability of the components, plus the sub-components are replaceable should molders have any issues occur on their end.”

“We’ve had good success with them.  We’ve built three tools with them so far and I can say that anytime we have to build a stack tool, we’ll use StacKit.”

Cyndi Kustush
Public Relations Coordinator

As Public Relations Coordinator for Progressive, Cyndi Kustush oversees media relations from both sides of the realm. Her responsibilities include writing press releases and articles about key products and services and getting them placed in industry publications that reach our customers. Conversely, as a managing editor, she also seeks out news and articles from customers and other suppliers in the trade in order to convey their news through two newsletters that Progressive sponsors: The Tooling Press Release (TPR) and the Tooling Product News (TPN). In fact, Cyndi also helps create
this newsletter, among others.

A degreed, professional journalist, Cyndi came to Progressive more than six years ago. With a father that owns a mold manufacturing company, she grew up in the industry and feels at home in it – an advantage that she says makes her job all the more fun and rewarding to do. She’s also an avid supporter of saving what is left of the manufacturing industry in the U.S. and has been active with organizations like the American Mold Builders Association, the Society of the Plastics Industry and others, traveling to Washington D.C. to meet with legislators to discuss current trade policies and how they are affecting
this industry.

“I believe manufacturing is a key component to economic recovery in this country,” says Cyndi. “Also, through my work at Progressive, if I can help our customers learn about products and services that help them to be more globally competitive, then that also helps us sustain a healthier manufacturing industry. I enjoy talking with our customers and finding ways to promote their companies, too. An example would be by featuring them in our TPR newsletter, or collecting product testimonials from them to feature in other newsletters, presentations or ads.”

Cyndi would love to hear from customers and she can be reached via email at Cyndi.Kustush@procomps.com, or call her at 630-369-9120.
