Progressive Introduces Blow Mold Tooling Components

Progressive Components introduces its newest product line, a standard component program for Blow Mold Tooling applications. The line, which features an array of exclusive, standard tooling components and mechanisms designed to improve overall production times while saving money, is being officially unveiled here, at NPE 2003.

"Off-the-shelf components for blow molds have been scarce," states Progressive's Craig Hasselberger, Business Development Manager. "Unlike tooling segments such as Injection Molds and Stamping Dies, there hasn't been a comprehensive program with nationwide coverage."

Progressive's Blow Mold Tooling line features several new standards within the program. These include Blow Needles, Ejector Pins, Cylinders, In-Mold Punches, Front Load Pins and Bushings, External mount Pin & Bushing Blocks, Date Stamps for Blow Mold, along with Cooling Components.

In addition to its new Blow Mold Tooling catalog, Progressive has launched its IMF In-Mold Finishing program. IMF is comprised of patented technologies for In-Mold Guillotines and In-Mold Deflashing, implemented by authorized licensees.

"There's a high cost and risk to secondary finishing operations," states Hasselberger. "We're going to do all we can to standardize what can be standardized, and work with partners throughout the industry to make usage more common."

Progressive announced earlier this year that in 2001 it had purchased patents from recognized innovator Gerald Hobson of Shell Rock, IA, and formalized a relationship so as to provide application consulting.

At NPE 2003 Progressive announced that Fremont Plastic Molds in Fremont, OH, was its first licensee signed up for utilizing the technology.

"Where secondary devices and certain part geometry can be a problem, the In-Mold Guillotine could help a production facility run more efficiently," states Fremont President Martin Cass. "There are definitely some applications where it hasn't been used yet, and we're excited about the possibilities."
