New Program for Specials & Customs

Progressive Components is rolling out its new, optimized Special and Custom Components line at NPE 2003.

"Now more than ever, companies are scrutinizing the true costs of all operations and looking for ways in which those in their supply chain can do more for less," states Patrick Fleming, Program Manager for Progressive's Specials and Customs offering.

One example of Progressive's program is with Special finished cooling components such as Brass Extension Plugs. "Rather than ordering as a standard and adapting to suit the mold, the mold designer can specify the finished length in the Bill of Materials, and Purchasing can order to suit," states Fleming. "Then tool maker time is saved, which is especially valuable at the final mold assembly stage."

Progressive's pricing for finished length Extension Plugs, with sealant applied, rivals that of competitors' unfinished products. Other Special finished items include cut to length Ejector Pins, Ejector Sleeves, Date Pin Inserts, Angle Pins, and more.

Custom components can also be fabricated from the ground up. Items such as Custom Core Pins, Side Locks (for replacing worn non-standards), along with items such as UniLifter Core Blades, are stepped and ready for final undercut detail.

Unique cooling components can now also be provided. Custom bubbler tubes to very small diameters (.020"/.5mm), custom blade material to very long lengths (36"/915mm), and custom cooling cores made from print.

"We love the opportunity to quote special bubblers," adds Fleming. "We can be such a cost effective alternative to trying to produce cost effectively within a tool room."

Although Progressive has offered special fabricated items for years, it is only recently that a greater emphasis has been placed on this area.

"We believe that, in the times ahead, customers will look more to their suppliers for value added services," Fleming says.
