Sleeve Applications

New Standards Introduced for Sleeve Applications

Progressive Components introduces three new components to further standardize mold ejection:

Thin Wall Sleeves are designed for today’s thinner plastic wall sections. Instead of purchasing a custom ejector sleeve or machining a step in a standard sleeve, Progressive has developed a standard line of sleeves with .03" wall thickness.

Thin Wall Sleeves are available with inner diameters of 3/32ř to 3/8ř in two standard lengths, 4" or 6". The bearing lengths are similar to that of a standard sleeve, with 2" of bearing and a long tapered lead-in from the end of the sleeve. Progressive’s Thin Wall Sleeves are engineered from A-2, providing a cross section which steps out to a wider shoulder and head diameter. The sleeves are treated with Nicklon® on the inner and outer diameters to provide wear resistance and lubricity during production.

Another new product designed to eliminate special order sleeves is the Sleeve Extensions. Many times, a larger mold application will call for longer length sleeves and standard sleeves may fall short. By utilizing the Sleeve Extension, catalog standard and Progressive’s Thin Wall Sleeves gain an extra 3" of height while maintaining industry standard counterbores in the pin plates.

The Sleeve Extensions are easily installed in the pin plates first, and the Ejector Sleeve simply slides into the t-slot on the extension, with no additional machining required. The Extensions are manufactured from 1215 steel and etched for easy identification.

In addition to these new standards, Progressive has developed a simple and cost-effective method to retain the center core pin when used in ejector sleeve applications. The Core Pin Retainers (patent pending) utilize a standard thread size, similar to a set screw. However, unlike a set screw, a head enables the retainer to bottom out rather than thread into the core pin head. This allows the pin to float slightly for optimum pin-to-sleeve performance and eliminates the need for extra machining of space-obtrusive plates.

All Ejector Sleeve System components are now in stock at Progressive, priced much less than comparable methods.
